What this trial studies
This Phase 1, multi-site pilot will plan and test procedures for delivering the 8-week Mindful After Cancer (MAC) program — a mindfulness-based sexual-health education and support program — to breast and gynecologic cancer survivors. Eligible participants who report sexual concerns will be recruited at three U.S. cancer centers and randomly assigned, with those assigned to MAC receiving weekly videoconference sessions with a trained mindfulness coach and online materials plus a post-program interview. The study will compare recruitment approaches across the three sites, track participation and survey completion, and develop training and supervision plans for the professionals who deliver the program. Findings will inform feasibility, recruitment strategy, and intervention training for a larger definitive trial.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults (18+) diagnosed with stage I–IV breast or gynecologic cancer at least six months earlier who report at least one sexual concern on the screener and have access to high-speed internet and English fluency are ideal candidates.
Not a fit: People who do not speak English, lack reliable high-speed internet, or do not report sexual concerns are unlikely to benefit from this program.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the program could improve sexual function, body image, and coping for survivors by offering accessible online mindfulness training and education.
How similar studies have performed: Related mindfulness and online psychoeducational programs for cancer survivors have shown promise for improving quality of life and sexual or body-image concerns, but large-scale randomized evidence remains limited.
