Virtual home hospital care with remote monitoring for acute kidney injury
Using Personalized Risk and Digital Tools to Guide Transitions Following Acute Kidney Events - Virtual Care: Virtual Home Hospital With Remote Monitoring to Reduce Acute Care Hospitalization

What this trial studies
This clinical trial aims to implement multi-component digital health solutions to address care gaps for hospitalized adults with acute kidney injury (AKI). By utilizing computerized clinical decision support and virtual care delivered through a hospital-at-home model, the study seeks to reduce hospital stay lengths and readmission rates while improving long-term outcomes. The trial will involve 354 participants and will be conducted over three years at the University of Calgary and University of Alberta. Participants will be monitored remotely to ensure effective management of their condition post-discharge.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are hospitalized adults aged 18 and older diagnosed with acute kidney injury who are at high risk of readmission or death.
Not a fit: Patients who reside outside Alberta or those with kidney failure requiring dialysis may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve recovery and reduce hospital readmissions for patients with acute kidney injury.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown success with similar digital health interventions for AKI management, indicating a promising approach.
