What this trial studies
This observational study aims to explore the perceptions of veterans aged 65 and older regarding ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) for depression and end-of-life distress. Participants will be recruited from the VA healthcare system and will engage in interviews where they complete a story about a fictitious veteran facing similar challenges. The study employs a mixed-method design, combining qualitative and quantitative data through interviews and questionnaires to understand veterans' attitudes towards KAP. The findings are intended to inform educational efforts within the VA system regarding the use of KAP.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are veterans aged 65 and older who are currently enrolled in VA healthcare.
Not a fit: Patients who are cognitively impaired to the extent that they cannot comprehend the survey will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of veterans' perceptions and improve the implementation of ketamine-assisted psychotherapy for those suffering from depression and end-of-life distress.
How similar studies have performed: While this study explores a novel approach to understanding perceptions of KAP among veterans, similar qualitative studies have shown success in other populations regarding mental health interventions.
