What this trial studies
This pilot program evaluates the Vending machine Naloxone Distribution for Your community (VENDY) initiative, which aims to enhance access to naloxone through community-placed vending machines. The program will be implemented in three communities, where naloxone will be distributed for free to individuals who wish to obtain it. The study will assess the reach of naloxone distribution, the adoption rate among sites and staff, and the fidelity to restocking and maintenance protocols for the machines.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Any community member who wishes to obtain naloxone is eligible to use the vending machines.
Not a fit: Individuals who are unable to enter a code on the vending machine or open a kiosk will not benefit from this program.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this initiative could significantly increase access to naloxone, thereby reducing opioid overdose deaths in the community.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown that innovative distribution methods like vending machines can effectively increase access to naloxone, suggesting a promising approach.
