What this trial studies
This multicentre prospective study aims to validate the CAPTURE case finding tool for identifying undiagnosed patients with obstructive pulmonary disease in France. Healthcare professionals will screen participants through a short interview and a 5-item CAPTURE questionnaire, followed by a peak expiratory flow measurement using a portable device. The results from the CAPTURE tool will be compared to portable spirometry to confirm the presence of an obstructive disorder. Participants identified will be referred to a doctor, with a follow-up at six months to evaluate their entry into a healthcare pathway.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 40 or older who are currently receiving treatment from a healthcare professional and are affiliated with the French social security system.
Not a fit: Patients who have already been diagnosed with COPD or asthma will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve the early detection and management of obstructive respiratory diseases in patients who are currently undiagnosed.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in using similar case finding tools for respiratory diseases, indicating potential for this approach.
