What this trial studies
This observational study aims to validate the Maudsley 3-item Visual Analogue Scale (M3VAS) for assessing core symptoms of major depressive disorder (MDD) in a Polish population. Participants will self-assess their mood quality, pleasure experience (anhedonia), and suicidality over the past two weeks using a 100 mm ungraded line. The scores will be calculated based on the participants' markings, providing a total score that reflects the severity of their symptoms. The M3VAS has previously shown good psychometric properties in a British population, and this study seeks to confirm its effectiveness in a different cultural context.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals diagnosed with major depressive disorder or bipolar disorder.
Not a fit: Patients with psychotic disorders or those currently experiencing mania or hypomania may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a standardized tool for better assessment and management of depressive symptoms in patients.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown success with similar assessment tools, but this specific validation in the Polish population is novel.
