What this trial studies

This observational study aims to validate the Hierarchical Model of Psychopathology (HiTOP) within Chinese community samples, addressing issues of diagnostic heterogeneity and high comorbidity in psychiatric classifications. It will explore cultural differences in the HiTOP model between Western and Eastern cultures, examine the impact of adverse childhood experiences on HiTOP dimensions, and investigate the relationship between unique psychological variables and psychopathological dimensions. Participants will complete detailed surveys measuring their symptoms and experiences, with follow-up assessments over four years to monitor changes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are Chinese citizens aged 18 and older with at least 9 years of education.

Not a fit: Patients with severe mental health conditions that impair self-awareness, such as schizophrenia or severe depression, may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the understanding and treatment of mental health issues in the Chinese population by providing a more accurate diagnostic framework.

How similar studies have performed: While the HiTOP model has been explored in Western contexts, this study represents a novel approach to validating it within the Chinese cultural framework.
