What this trial studies
This clinical trial evaluates the effectiveness and safety of Xarelto (Rivaroxaban) in preventing venous thromboembolism in patients undergoing total hip replacement (THR) and total knee replacement (TKR). Participants are randomly assigned to receive either Xarelto or no prophylactic antithrombotic treatment. The study involves sonographic examinations to detect deep vein thrombosis (DVT) before surgery and at specified intervals postoperatively. The incidence of DVT, pulmonary embolism, and related complications will be monitored over a three-month follow-up period.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals scheduled for total knee or total hip replacement surgery.
Not a fit: Patients with recent antithrombotic use, a history of coagulopathy, or preoperative positive DVT screening may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could significantly reduce the incidence of blood clots in patients undergoing hip and knee surgeries.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have demonstrated the efficacy of Xarelto in similar contexts, but this specific approach in the Taiwanese population is novel.
