What this trial studies
This observational study aims to leverage an app-based platform to collect data from individuals using smartwatches or wearable activity trackers. Participants will provide informed consent electronically and share data on heart rate, activity, sleep, and self-reported outcomes. The study will also gather environmental data based on participants' locations and may include optional sharing of electronic health records. The goal is to determine if this individualized tracking can provide early indications of influenza-like illnesses and other viral infections.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are U.S. residents aged 18 and older who use a smartphone and have a connected wearable device.
Not a fit: Patients who do not use smartphones or wearables, or those under 18 years old, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enable early detection of influenza-like illnesses, leading to timely interventions and improved patient outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies utilizing wearable technology for health monitoring have shown promise, indicating potential for success in this approach.
