What this trial studies

This study evaluates the effectiveness of a video regulation system combined with an emergency kit in reducing unnecessary night hospitalizations of elderly residents in nursing homes. It focuses on the challenges faced by nursing home staff during nighttime emergencies when only orderlies are present. By providing remote medical support through video calls, the study aims to enhance the assessment and management of emergencies, potentially preventing avoidable hospitalizations. Approximately 500,000 elderly individuals in nursing homes in France will be the target population for this observational study.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are elderly individuals residing in medicalized nursing homes equipped with the video-regulation kit.

Not a fit: Patients who do not reside in nursing homes or those who do not require nighttime emergency assistance may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly reduce the number of unnecessary hospitalizations for elderly nursing home residents, improving their overall health outcomes and quality of life.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited research specifically on this approach, the concept of using telemedicine in emergency situations has shown promise in other studies.
