What this trial studies
This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of binocular visual therapy combined with electronic devices for treating amblyopia in children. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of three groups: one receiving traditional eye patching with near-vision activities, another with eye patching and an electronic tablet, and a third using red-green glasses with an electronic tablet. Each group will undergo treatment for two hours daily over four months, followed by a two-month suspension period to assess any relapses in amblyopia. The study will compare the visual acuity and depth perception improvements across the groups.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include children with anisometropic or strabismic amblyopia who have not received previous amblyopia treatment.
Not a fit: Patients with other types of amblyopia, previous treatments, or any ocular or neurological conditions may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could provide a more engaging and effective treatment for amblyopia, potentially improving visual outcomes in children.
How similar studies have performed: While traditional treatments for amblyopia have been established, the use of video games and binocular therapy represents a novel approach that has shown promise in preliminary studies.
