What this trial studies

This study evaluates the effectiveness of noninvasive vagus nerve stimulation (nVNS) in reducing the frequency and intensity of chronic migraine attacks. Researchers aim to assess the feasibility, safety, and acceptance of this neuromodulation technique as a potential treatment option for individuals suffering from chronic migraines. The study will compare the effects of active vagal nerve stimulation against a sham treatment to determine its efficacy in alleviating migraine symptoms. By focusing on patients who have not responded to traditional migraine treatments, this research seeks to provide a new avenue for managing chronic migraine.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals diagnosed with chronic migraines, experiencing headaches for 15 or more days per month for over three months.

Not a fit: Patients with mental illness, photophobia, or those with cranial implants or shunts may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could offer a new, effective treatment option for individuals suffering from chronic migraines, improving their quality of life.

How similar studies have performed: While vagus nerve stimulation has shown promise in other studies for various conditions, this specific application for chronic migraine is still being explored and may be considered novel.
