Using urine biomarkers to monitor thyroid cancer prognosis

Urinary Exosomal Biomarkers of Thyroglobulin and Galectin-3 for Prognosis and Follow-up in Patients of Well-differentiated Thyroid Cancer

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to enroll patients with thyroid cancer who have undergone thyroidectomy and/or radioactive iodine therapy to monitor urinary exosomal biomarkers, specifically thyroglobulin and galectin-3, over a two-year period. The study has already enrolled 73 patients and plans to include an additional 30 patients, focusing on differences between papillary and follicular thyroid cancers. By tracking these biomarkers, the researchers hope to develop effective treatment strategies and monitoring models for thyroid cancer progression and transformation.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients diagnosed with papillary, follicular, or anaplastic thyroid cancer who are undergoing post-operative follow-up.

Not a fit: Patients with unclearly diagnosed thyroid cancers may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a non-invasive method for monitoring thyroid cancer progression and improving patient outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have indicated the potential of urinary biomarkers in cancer monitoring, suggesting that this approach may yield promising results.
