Using ultrasound to guide gastric tube placement in young children
To Study the Application of Bedside Ultrasound in Gastric Tube Placement and Determination of the Position of the End of the Gastric Tube in Children Aged 0 to 6 Years With Congenital Heart Disease

What this trial studies
This study investigates the use of bedside ultrasound to accurately locate the end of a gastric tube in children aged 0-6 years with congenital heart disease (CHD). The traditional method of gastric tube placement often lacks real-time accuracy, leading to potential complications. By employing ultrasound technology, the study aims to enhance the precision and safety of gastric tube insertion during the perioperative period. This prospective randomized controlled trial will compare ultrasound-guided placement with conventional methods to assess effectiveness and feasibility.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children aged 0-6 years diagnosed with congenital heart disease who require gastric tube placement.
Not a fit: Patients who may not benefit from this study include those with delayed sternal closure or whose parents have cognitive impairments or mental disorders.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve the safety and accuracy of gastric tube placement in young children with CHD.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results using ultrasound for similar applications, indicating potential success for this approach.
