What this trial studies

This study focuses on individuals diagnosed with leprosy, a condition often accompanied by significant stigma and social exclusion, particularly in rural areas. It employs Trauma-Informed Motivational Interviewing (TIMI) to address the psychological and social challenges faced by these individuals, aiming to enhance resilience, improve self-perception, and promote social re-engagement. By integrating trauma-informed care with motivational interviewing techniques, the study seeks to empower participants to overcome the emotional distress associated with their condition and improve their overall mental health outcomes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals with a confirmed diagnosis of leprosy who are experiencing physical, emotional, or social consequences related to the condition.

Not a fit: Patients with severe cognitive or psychiatric impairments that hinder their ability to engage in reflective and goal-setting discussions may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve the mental health and social integration of individuals affected by leprosy.

How similar studies have performed: While the specific application of TIMI for leprosy is novel, similar trauma-informed approaches have shown promise in addressing psychosocial issues in other stigmatized health conditions.
