Using the Pontic-shield technique to preserve alveolar ridge after tooth extraction
Effectiveness of "Pontic-shield" Technique in Alveolar Ridge Preservation: A Randomized Controlled Trial
This study is testing a new method called the 'Pontic-shield' technique to see if it can better preserve the bone structure in the jaw after a tooth is removed compared to traditional methods and no treatment at all.

What this trial studies
This clinical trial investigates the effectiveness of the 'Pontic-shield' technique for preserving the alveolar ridge following tooth extraction. It is a three-arm randomized study comparing the Pontic-shield method to traditional ridge preservation using deproteinized bovine bone and a porcine collagen membrane, as well as a control group receiving no preservation treatment. Cone-beam computed tomography will be utilized to assess radiographic changes before and after the intervention, providing insights into the technique's effectiveness in maintaining bone structure.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 to 80 who require tooth extraction from the second premolar to the second premolar in either the maxilla or mandible.
Not a fit: Patients with severe systemic diseases, active periodontal disease, or those who smoke heavily may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this technique could improve long-term outcomes for patients requiring dental implants after tooth extraction.
How similar studies have performed: While the Pontic-shield technique is a novel approach, similar studies on alveolar ridge preservation have shown promising results.
