Using the mSOAR score to predict early death after an acute stroke
The Modified SOAR Score as a Predictor of Early Mortality in Hospitalized Patients With Acute Stroke
This project will try the mSOAR score to see if it can predict early death in adults admitted with acute stroke at Sohag University Hospitals.

What this trial studies
This observational study will enroll adults admitted with acute stroke to Sohag University Hospitals and collect clinical presentation, past medical history, and relevant laboratory results. Investigators will calculate each patient’s modified SOAR (mSOAR) score and follow them during their hospital stay to record early mortality outcomes. No experimental treatments are given; usual clinical care continues while data are recorded prospectively. The aim is to see whether mSOAR can reliably stratify early mortality risk to inform monitoring and management decisions.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults with a confirmed diagnosis of acute stroke admitted to Sohag University Hospitals who can provide informed consent and have clinical and laboratory data available.
Not a fit: Patients with transient ischemic attack (TIA), those with primary orthopedic conditions, or patients treated outside Sohag University Hospitals are unlikely to benefit from the findings.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, mSOAR could help clinicians identify high-risk stroke patients earlier so they receive closer monitoring and timelier interventions.
How similar studies have performed: SOAR-based scores have been used in other cohorts and often show useful predictive value, but their accuracy varies by population and requires local validation.
