What this trial studies
This project evaluates the effectiveness of the JomPrEP app, designed to facilitate HIV prevention among Malaysian men who have sex with men (MSM). It employs a Type I Hybrid Implementation Science approach to assess both the app's efficacy and the contextual factors influencing its implementation. By leveraging mobile health technology, the app aims to provide a confidential and less stigmatizing way for MSM to access HIV testing and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) services. The study addresses barriers to healthcare access and aims to streamline the process of obtaining necessary health services for this marginalized population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are HIV-negative or status-unknown cis-gender men who have sex with men, aged 18 and older, and who own a smartphone.
Not a fit: Patients who cannot read or understand English or Bahasa Malaysia, or who are unable to provide informed consent, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this app could significantly improve HIV prevention efforts and healthcare access for MSM in Malaysia.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies utilizing mobile health interventions for HIV prevention have shown promise, indicating that this approach is both relevant and potentially effective.
