What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effectiveness of teleconsultations in geriatric oncology for older patients with cancer. It focuses on conducting Comprehensive Geriatric Assessments (CGA) remotely to improve treatment management and reduce unexplained re-hospitalization rates. The study aims to address the limited access to specialized care for older adults in rural areas of France, particularly in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. By integrating pharmaceutical expertise into the CGA, the study seeks to enhance patient safety and treatment outcomes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients aged 75 and older who are diagnosed with any type or stage of cancer and are willing to undergo a geriatric oncology assessment.
Not a fit: Patients with severe cognitive impairments, significant language barriers, or those unable to consent will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve the management and outcomes of older cancer patients by providing better access to specialized care.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results with telemedicine in improving access to care for older adults, making this approach both relevant and timely.
