What this trial studies
This clinical trial investigates the effectiveness of Essilor Stellest myopia management spectacle lenses in slowing the progression of myopia in adults aged 18-40 years. Participants will wear Stellest lenses in one eye and single-vision lenses in the other eye for a duration of 12 months, after which the lenses will be switched between eyes for another 12 months. The study aims to determine if these lenses can effectively manage myopia progression in adults, who may experience continued worsening of their vision. The trial will be conducted at Ulster University in Northern Ireland and will involve regular assessments of myopia progression over two years.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18-40 years with a history of myopia progression of at least 0.50D in the past two years.
Not a fit: Patients who have previously undergone myopia management treatments or have significant ocular or systemic diseases may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a new management option for adults with progressive myopia, potentially reducing the risk of serious ocular complications.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited research on adult myopia management, studies in children have shown success with similar approaches, making this a promising but relatively novel investigation.
