What this trial studies
This project aims to reduce vaping initiation among sexual and gender minority (SGM) youth aged 13-20 by developing tailored anti-vaping messages for social media. The study involves exploring the beliefs and cultural preferences of SGM youth through surveys and focus groups to inform message development. An online experiment will then test the effectiveness of these tailored messages compared to standard messages. The approach is grounded in health communication principles and aims to address health disparities in tobacco use among vulnerable populations.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are SGM youth aged 13-20 who have never vaped or used tobacco products in the past 30 days.
Not a fit: Patients who are current vapers or do not identify as SGM may not receive any benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly reduce vaping initiation rates among SGM youth, contributing to better health outcomes in this population.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on anti-vaping interventions, this tailored approach for SGM youth is novel and specifically addresses the unique needs of this population.
