What this trial studies
This observational study aims to enhance the detection of apnea and hypopnea in individuals diagnosed or suspected of having obstructive sleep apnea. Participants will wear a Skiin underwear chest band during a polysomnography test, which collects ECG, accelerometry, and temperature data. The goal is to develop new algorithms that provide better insights into sleep patterns and physiological metrics, thereby validating and improving the existing Skiin system. The study will involve monitoring participants' sleep and activity levels to gather comprehensive data.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 18 and older who have been referred for polysomnography and are diagnosed or suspected of having obstructive sleep apnea.
Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant, have implanted defibrillators or pacemakers, or have open wounds in contact areas will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved detection and management of obstructive sleep apnea, enhancing patient care.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies utilizing wearable technology for sleep apnea detection have shown promise, indicating that this approach may yield beneficial results.
