What this trial studies

This clinical trial evaluates the effectiveness of short-form health education videos, designed in a social media style, in enhancing health care transition readiness, self-efficacy, emotional well-being, health literacy, and appointment attendance among adolescents with chronic illnesses. Participants aged 12 to 17 will be randomly assigned to either the video intervention or a standard health education website and will engage with the materials for 20 minutes, followed by completing surveys that take 30-60 minutes. The study aims to compare the outcomes immediately after the intervention and at a six-month follow-up to determine the impact of the video intervention.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adolescents aged 12 to 17 with chronic illnesses who are receiving care in subspecialty clinics and have access to an internet-connected device.

Not a fit: Patients who do not speak English or Spanish or lack the cognitive capacity to understand the study procedures may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve adolescents' ability to transition to adult health care services, enhancing their overall health management.
