What this trial studies
This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of various active reminder methods, such as WhatsApp messages, Instagram notifications, phone calls, and application alerts, on improving oral hygiene compliance among patients undergoing orthodontic treatment. By comparing these different reminder strategies, the study seeks to determine which method most effectively encourages patients to maintain their oral hygiene. The focus is on orthodontic patients with fixed appliances who have good oral hygiene at the start of the study.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are orthodontic patients with complete natural dentition who are undergoing treatment with fixed appliances and have good oral hygiene.
Not a fit: Patients with health risks associated with periodontal probing, syndromic conditions, previous orthodontic treatment, or carious teeth may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved oral hygiene practices among orthodontic patients, reducing the risk of dental plaque and related complications.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of using social media and application alerts for reminders is relatively novel, similar studies have shown that reminder systems can improve compliance in various health-related behaviors.
