What this trial studies

This clinical trial investigates the effectiveness of ozonized olive oil gel in treating periodontal pockets in patients diagnosed with chronic periodontitis. Sixteen participants were randomly assigned to either an experimental group receiving the ozonized olive oil gel or a control group receiving a placebo gel. After an initial hygiene treatment to remove tartar, the participants underwent a series of evaluations and gel administrations over a three-week period, including periodontal probing and microbiological sampling to assess treatment outcomes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults over 18 with stage II, III, or IV periodontitis and probing pocket depth of 4 mm or more.

Not a fit: Patients with conditions such as diabetes, severe smoking habits, or those undergoing immunosuppressive therapies may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this treatment could offer a novel and effective option for managing periodontal disease.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited data on the use of ozonized olive oil specifically, similar studies on ozonated therapies have shown promising results in periodontal treatment.
