What this trial studies
This clinical trial evaluates the effectiveness of ozone treatment as an adjunct to nonsurgical periodontal treatment (NSPT) in patients with periodontitis. The study employs a split-mouth design, where each participant receives NSPT in one quadrant and NSPT plus ozone therapy in the contralateral quadrant. Researchers will assess changes in clinical periodontal parameters, levels of inflammatory cytokines in gingival crevicular fluid, and the presence of periodontal pathogens. The goal is to determine if ozone application improves outcomes compared to NSPT alone.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are systemically healthy individuals with periodontitis who have not received periodontal treatment or antibiotics in the past six months.
Not a fit: Patients with less than 20 teeth, partial dentures, or fixed prosthodontics may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to improved treatment outcomes for patients with periodontitis.
How similar studies have performed: While ozone therapy has been explored in various dental applications, this specific approach as an adjunct to NSPT in periodontitis is relatively novel.
