What this trial studies
This clinical trial evaluates the effectiveness of ozone oil as an adjunctive treatment to non-surgical periodontal treatment in patients with type 2 diabetes and chronic periodontal disease. The study involves 16 diabetic patients with moderate to advanced periodontal disease, where two treatment groups are compared: one receiving scaling and root planing with saline solution and the other with ozone oil. The primary focus is to assess improvements in periodontal clinical parameters, particularly in sites with significant periodontal pocket depth. The trial employs a split-mouth design to ensure reliable comparisons between treatments.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals with type 2 diabetes who have moderate to advanced periodontal disease.
Not a fit: Patients with hypersensitivity to ozone oil or those with certain systemic conditions such as osteoporosis or immunosuppression may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this treatment could lead to improved periodontal health in diabetic patients, potentially reducing complications associated with both conditions.
How similar studies have performed: While ozone therapy has been explored in various contexts, this specific application in diabetic periodontal treatment is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
