What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effectiveness of custom sport mouthguards in preventing dental injuries among athletes aged 7 to 30. It will assess the acceptability of mouthguards, the incidence of soft tissue injuries, and various oral health parameters over a six-month period. Participants will undergo a thorough oral examination and provide data on their dental history and sports practices. The study aims to gather insights on the impact of mouthguards on athletes' quality of life and their understanding of dental trauma.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children, adolescents, and adults aged 7 to 30 who engage in sports at least twice a week and have no systemic health issues.
Not a fit: Patients with existing dental issues such as cavitated caries or periodontitis, or those with certain malocclusions or neurological disorders, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could significantly reduce the incidence of dental injuries in athletes and improve their overall oral health.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown that the use of mouthguards can effectively reduce dental injuries in sports, indicating a promising approach.
