What this trial studies

This study investigates the efficacy of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) as a treatment for patients experiencing Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) in the upper extremity following an ischemic stroke. A total of 45 patients will be enrolled and divided into three groups: one receiving TMS combined with conventional rehabilitation, another receiving sham TMS with rehabilitation, and a control group receiving only conventional rehabilitation. The goal is to assess the effectiveness of TMS in alleviating pain and improving function in this patient population during the subacute to chronic phase post-stroke.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome following an ischemic stroke.

Not a fit: Patients with conditions such as epilepsy, pregnancy, or those with cardiac devices may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this treatment could significantly reduce pain and improve recovery outcomes for patients suffering from CRPS after a stroke.

How similar studies have performed: While TMS has been explored in various pain conditions, this specific application in CRPS post-stroke is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
