Combined Application of Er:YAG Laser and Sub-gingival Air Polishing Powder in Treatment of Periodontitis: A Split-mouth, Randomized Controlled Trial
NA · Beijing Chao Yang Hospital · NCT06574802

What this trial studies
This study investigates the effectiveness of combining Er:YAG laser treatment with sub-gingival air polishing in patients with generalized stage II or III periodontitis. It employs a split-mouth design where two quadrants of the mouth are treated differently: one with the combined approach and the other with laser treatment alone. Clinical evaluations will be conducted at multiple time points over two years to assess the outcomes of both treatment methods in a Chinese population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 35-65 with generalized stage II or III periodontitis and a minimum of 20 teeth.
Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant, have diabetes, or have received recent periodontal treatment may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could enhance the effectiveness of periodontal treatment and improve patient outcomes in managing gum disease.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on laser treatments for periodontal disease, the specific combination of Er:YAG laser and air polishing is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
