Using Humanin to Diagnose and Predict Kidney Injury After Heart Transplant
Humanin's Value for Early Diagnosis and Short-term Prognosis in Patients With AKI After Heart Transplantation
This study is testing if a new marker called Humanin can help doctors spot and predict kidney problems early in adults who have just had a heart transplant.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Humanin as a novel biomarker for the early diagnosis and short-term prognosis of acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients following heart transplantation. Researchers will compare Humanin levels in patients who develop AKI with those who do not, to determine its predictive value. Given the high incidence of AKI post-heart transplant and its potential complications, identifying a reliable biomarker could significantly improve patient management. The study will involve adult patients with normal renal function prior to surgery at Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older undergoing heart transplantation with normal baseline renal function.
Not a fit: Patients under 18 years of age or those with incomplete baseline medical records will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to earlier and more accurate diagnosis of AKI, potentially improving patient outcomes after heart transplantation.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of Humanin as a biomarker is relatively novel, previous studies have shown promise in other conditions, suggesting potential for success in this context.
