What this trial studies
This study investigates the effectiveness of honey as a treatment for deep neck space abscesses, comparing it to standard wound care methods. Conducted as a randomized clinical trial, it aims to determine whether honey can offer a viable alternative or improvement in managing this condition. The research assesses outcomes related to healing, infection control, and overall patient recovery, utilizing a single-blind randomized controlled design. Participants will receive either standard dressing or standard dressing with honey dressing to evaluate the differences in wound healing.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults over 18 years old with deep neck abscesses, regardless of comorbidities, except for those with malignant diseases.
Not a fit: Patients who have undergone vacuum-assisted closure or those with incomplete medical records may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could provide a more cost-effective and efficient treatment option for patients with deep neck abscesses.
How similar studies have performed: While honey has been used in various wound care applications, this specific approach for deep neck abscesses is novel and has not been extensively tested.
