What this trial studies

This randomized controlled trial evaluates the impact of hand fan application on dyspnea, illness perception, anxiety, and depression in patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). A total of 56 participants will be divided into two groups: one receiving standard care and the other using a hand fan for 10 minutes daily over six weeks. The study will assess changes in dyspnea and psychological outcomes using validated scales before and after the intervention. Data analysis will be conducted using statistical software to determine the effectiveness of this non-pharmacological approach.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are COPD patients who are oriented, cooperative, and do not have communication issues.

Not a fit: Patients who have experienced a COPD exacerbation in the last four weeks may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could provide COPD patients with a simple and effective method to alleviate breathing difficulties and improve mental health.

How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of using hand fans is novel, other studies have explored non-pharmacological interventions for COPD with varying degrees of success.
