Using exhaled breath particles to detect lung transplant rejection

Exhaled Breath Particles as a Clinical Indicator for Acute and Chronic Rejection After Lung Transplantation

What this trial studies

This observational study focuses on patients who have undergone lung transplantation at Skåne University Hospital. It aims to utilize non-invasive measurements of exhaled breath particles (EBP) and particle flow rate (PFR) to detect early signs of lung transplant rejection. Patients will have their EBP and PFR measured multiple times post-transplant, alongside blood samples and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid collection during routine follow-ups. The goal is to identify rejection earlier and explore potential biomarkers that could improve treatment and survival rates.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients who have recently undergone lung transplantation at Skåne University Hospital.

Not a fit: Patients who have not undergone lung transplantation will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to earlier detection of lung transplant rejection, improving treatment options and patient survival.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown promise in using exhaled breath particles for monitoring airway diseases, suggesting potential success for this novel approach in lung transplantation.
