What this trial studies
This study evaluates the safety and efficacy of Empagliflozin in patients with heart failure who are undergoing hemodialysis and still have some residual renal function. Participants will be monitored for changes in echocardiographic parameters, levels of pro-brain natriuretic peptide, diuresis volume, and serum acidity while on the medication. The goal is to determine if Empagliflozin can provide cardiac and renal benefits in this specific patient population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are heart failure patients on dialysis who still have some residual renal function.
Not a fit: Patients on dialysis with no residual urine will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this treatment could improve heart and kidney function in dialysis patients with heart failure.
How similar studies have performed: While Empagliflozin has shown benefits in other populations, its use in dialysis patients is novel and not yet tested.
