Using electrical stimulation to improve sit-to-stand movement in people with low back pain

Investigation on the Effect of Functional Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation Technique Applied to the Lumbar Multifidus Muscle On Body Kinetics and Kinematics During Sit to Stand Activity In Individuals With Nonspecific Low Back Pain

Not applicable Interventional Hacettepe University · NCT06212011

What this trial studies

This clinical trial aims to evaluate the effects of neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) on the lumbar multifidus muscle during sit-to-stand movements in individuals suffering from non-specific low back pain. A total of 24 participants aged 18-65 will be randomly assigned to receive either functional or conventional NMES during physiotherapy sessions. The study will assess changes in body kinematics and kinetics before and after the intervention to determine the effectiveness of the different NMES techniques. The randomization process will ensure unbiased allocation of participants to the treatment groups.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18-65 with a history of chronic low back pain and moderate pain levels.

Not a fit: Patients with neurological disorders, recent spinal surgery, or significant obesity may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could enhance functional movement and reduce pain in individuals with low back pain.

How similar studies have performed: While similar approaches have been explored, the specific application of NMES in this context is relatively novel.
