Using echocardiography to manage critically ill newborns
Impact of Echocardiography on Management of Critically Ill Neonates
Sohag University · NCT06533787

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to evaluate the outcomes, including mortality and morbidity, in hemodynamically unstable neonates who undergo echocardiographic assessments. Neonates showing signs of hemodynamic instability will receive a full clinical examination and echocardiography to guide management decisions. The study will track the time taken for these patients to achieve hemodynamic stability following the interventions based on echocardiographic findings. Management plans will be tailored according to the echocardiographic results, including the use of medications and volume expansion as needed.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are neonates aged 0 to 28 days admitted to the NICU with signs of hemodynamic instability, regardless of their gestational age or weight.
Not a fit: Patients with congenital heart disease, apart from patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), patent foramen ovale (PFO), or small atrial septal defects (ASD), may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could improve the management and outcomes of critically ill neonates by providing timely and accurate assessments of their hemodynamic status.
How similar studies have performed: While this study employs echocardiography in a novel way for managing critically ill neonates, similar approaches in other studies have shown promising results in improving patient outcomes.
