What this trial studies

This study investigates the effectiveness of combining duloxetine, a serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, with tramadol, a non-opioid analgesic, for managing chronic cancer pain. The approach aims to address both nociceptive and neuropathic pain components often experienced by cancer patients. By utilizing a combination of these medications, the study seeks to reduce reliance on traditional opioids and their associated side effects. Patients will be monitored for pain relief and any adverse effects during the treatment period.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are cancer patients aged 20 to 70 who are opioid naïve and not currently receiving any analgesic treatment.

Not a fit: Patients who have contraindications for duloxetine or tramadol or those who are difficult to assess for pain may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this treatment could provide a safer and more effective pain management option for cancer patients.

How similar studies have performed: While the combination of duloxetine and tramadol has been explored in other contexts, this specific approach for chronic cancer pain is relatively novel.
