Using diode laser to enhance periodontal treatment
Impact of Diode Laser as an Adjunct to Professional Mechanical Plaque Removal (PMPR) in Patients With Periodontitis: A Randomized Clinical Trial
This study is testing whether using a diode laser along with regular cleaning can help people with gum disease feel better and improve their oral health more than just cleaning alone.

What this trial studies
This study investigates the effects of diode laser as an adjunct to professional mechanical plaque removal in patients with periodontitis. It aims to compare the effectiveness of this combined approach against conventional treatment alone by evaluating clinical parameters and salivary biomarkers. The study will assess improvements in periodontal health indicators such as probing pocket depth and clinical attachment loss. This is the first study to explore the impact of diode lasers on salivary biomarker levels in the context of periodontal therapy.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients diagnosed with periodontitis who have at least three teeth with probing pocket depths of 5 mm or more.
Not a fit: Patients with diabetes, those on certain medications affecting healing, or who have received recent periodontal therapy may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to improved treatment outcomes for patients with periodontitis.
How similar studies have performed: While other studies have explored laser treatments in periodontal care, this specific approach focusing on salivary biomarkers is novel and untested.
