What this trial studies

This study investigates the effects of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) combined with individualized physical therapy on individuals suffering from chronic knee pain. The approach aims to address both peripheral and central factors contributing to pain, as traditional physical therapy often targets only peripheral sources. Participants will receive either active tDCS or sham stimulation while undergoing physical therapy, allowing researchers to compare the effectiveness of these interventions. The goal is to determine if the combination of tDCS and physical therapy leads to greater improvements in pain and function.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older who have been experiencing knee pain for at least three months.

Not a fit: Patients who have had surgery on the affected knee or have certain skin conditions that could be aggravated by tDCS may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could provide a more effective treatment option for individuals with chronic knee pain, potentially improving their quality of life.

How similar studies have performed: While the use of tDCS in pain management is a relatively novel approach, preliminary studies have shown promise in similar applications, suggesting potential for success.
