What this trial studies
This study involves six primary care practices within a pediatric care network in Philadelphia that will implement an electronic Clinical Decision Support (eCDS) tool for evaluating mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) in children aged 5-18. The eCDS tool includes a prediction rule to assess the risk of persistent symptoms and guides referrals to specialty care for high-risk patients. Over three years, the tool will be introduced at new sites, with training provided to healthcare providers and evaluations conducted through anonymous questionnaires and medical record reviews to assess its effectiveness in reducing symptom resolution time.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are children aged 5-18 who are evaluated for mild traumatic brain injury at participating primary care practices.
Not a fit: Patients with moderate or severe traumatic brain injuries will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to faster recovery and better management of symptoms for children with mild traumatic brain injuries.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using clinical decision support tools for improving patient outcomes, indicating potential success for this approach.
