What this trial studies
This study focuses on patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck who are undergoing radio(chemo)therapy. Participants will use the Emento app to record their nutritional status and diet throughout the treatment and for eight weeks post-therapy. The app sends daily reminders to encourage adequate caloric intake and includes bi-weekly screening questions to monitor health and nutritional status. If any negative responses are recorded, the study protocol ensures that the patient is promptly referred to their healthcare provider for further evaluation.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older with squamous cell carcinoma in the head and neck region who are receiving radio(chemo)therapy and have access to a smartphone.
Not a fit: Patients who are represented by a legal guardian or face language barriers may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly reduce weight loss and malnutrition in patients undergoing treatment for head and neck cancer.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific use of an app for nutritional tracking in this context may be novel, similar interventions have shown promise in improving patient outcomes in other cancer treatments.
