What this trial studies
This clinical trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a patient-centered electronic app designed to enhance knowledge and understanding of Hepatitis C (HCV) among patients in an urban emergency department. The app will provide personalized information about liver health, assess patients' knowledge and barriers to care, and deliver tailored educational content through videos and information sheets. By improving patients' comprehension of their HCV diagnosis and care options, the study seeks to increase linkage to care rates and treatment initiation for HCV. The trial will be conducted at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, targeting HCV-infected patients who are unaware of their HCV RNA status.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older who are HCV positive and do not have HCV RNA information.
Not a fit: Patients who are younger than 18, unable to provide informed consent, have altered mental status, are incarcerated, or critically ill may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve patient engagement and outcomes in the management of Hepatitis C.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using educational interventions to improve patient outcomes in HCV care, indicating that this approach may be effective.
