Using AI to analyze facial expressions in healthy individuals and those with cognitive decline or dementia
Preliminary Study Using Artificial Intelligence Technology to Identify Differences in Facial Expressions Between Healthy People, Patients With Cognitive Decline, and Patients With Dementia
This study is testing whether AI can help spot differences in facial expressions between healthy people and those with cognitive decline or dementia to improve early detection of these conditions.

What this trial studies
This observational study employs artificial intelligence technology to examine and identify differences in facial expressions among three groups: healthy individuals, patients experiencing cognitive decline, and those diagnosed with dementia. By analyzing these facial expressions, the research aims to develop a novel screening tool for dementia, potentially aiding in early detection and intervention strategies. The study focuses on participants aged 50 to 75, with specific cognitive assessment criteria to categorize them into experimental and control groups. The findings could contribute to promoting healthy aging and reducing the burden of dementia on families and healthcare systems.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals aged 50 to 75, including those with mild cognitive impairment, moderate dementia, and healthy controls.
Not a fit: Patients outside the age range of 50 to 75 or those unable to follow instructions may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved early detection of dementia, allowing for timely interventions that enhance patient outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of AI in analyzing facial expressions is a novel approach, similar studies have shown promise in enhancing dementia screening methods.
