Using advanced MRI to detect bone changes in inflammatory arthritis patients
Evaluation of 3D DL oZTEo in the Detection of Osseous Changes in Patients With Inflammatory Arthritis
NA · Mayo Clinic · NCT06383585
This study is testing a new type of MRI to see if it can better spot bone damage in the hands of people with inflammatory arthritis compared to regular X-rays and MRIs.

What this trial studies
This project aims to validate a new MRI pulse sequence, 3D DL oZTEo, for detecting bone erosions in the hands of patients with inflammatory arthritis. The study will compare the effectiveness of this advanced imaging technique against traditional radiography and conventional MRI methods. By focusing on patients who have already undergone hand radiographs confirming bony erosions, the study seeks to enhance diagnostic accuracy and clinical management for rheumatic conditions. The research is being conducted at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older with confirmed bony erosions in hand radiographs and scheduled for a hand MRI.
Not a fit: Patients under 18 years of age or those without confirmed bony erosions will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved detection of bone erosions, allowing for better management of inflammatory arthritis.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of advanced MRI techniques is gaining traction, this specific approach with 3D DL oZTEo is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
