Using advanced MRI techniques to improve diagnosis of focal epilepsy in children

Volumétrie Optimisée en Radiologie : intérêt en IRM Cérébrale pédiatrique Dans l'Exploration de l'épilepsie Focale

Observational University Hospital, Tours · NCT05100771

What this trial studies

This multicenter observational study aims to enhance the detection of brain lesions in children with suspected focal epilepsy by comparing traditional MRI methods with advanced quantitative volumetry and T1 relaxometry techniques. The study focuses on children aged 1-18 years who are being evaluated for epilepsy and require an MRI as part of their diagnostic work-up. By improving the sensitivity of brain imaging, the study seeks to identify subtle abnormalities that may not be visible with standard MRI, potentially leading to better management and treatment options for these patients.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children aged 1-18 years who are being evaluated for focal onset epilepsy and require a brain MRI.

Not a fit: Patients who oppose data processing or have MRI results that are not interpretable will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved diagnostic accuracy for children with focal epilepsy, allowing for more effective treatment strategies.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using advanced imaging techniques for epilepsy diagnosis, suggesting that this approach may yield beneficial results.
