What this trial studies

This study investigates the impact of using a stress ball on pain and anxiety levels in patients undergoing sharp debridement for diabetic foot ulcers. Participants will be divided into two groups: one will use a stress ball before the procedure, while the control group will not. Pain and anxiety will be assessed by an independent nurse before and after the debridement. The study aims to determine if the stress ball can effectively alleviate discomfort during this invasive treatment.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older who are hospitalized with diabetic foot ulcers and are experiencing pain.

Not a fit: Patients who do not experience pain or have received interventions to reduce pain prior to the procedure may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could provide a simple, non-invasive method to reduce pain and anxiety for patients undergoing sharp debridement.

How similar studies have performed: While no studies specifically on stress balls during sharp debridement have been conducted, similar interventions have shown promise in reducing pain and anxiety in other invasive procedures.
