What this trial studies
This clinical trial aims to investigate malnutrition and weight loss in patients diagnosed with amyloidosis by utilizing a low-cost nutrition-based application called MyFitnessPal. Participants will download the app, complete an online tutorial, and track their daily dietary and supplement intake over a nine-week period. The study will assess the feasibility of this approach in gathering detailed caloric intake data from patients. Additionally, participants will complete questionnaires at various points to evaluate their experience and dietary changes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older who have been diagnosed with any type of amyloidosis and are comfortable using a smartphone app.
Not a fit: Patients who are planning to undergo an autologous stem cell transplant or solid organ transplant within 12 weeks of enrollment, or those with cognitive or perceptual disturbances, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide valuable insights into dietary management for patients with amyloidosis, potentially improving their nutritional status.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific use of MyFitnessPal in this context may be novel, similar studies utilizing dietary tracking apps have shown promise in managing nutritional intake in various patient populations.
