What this trial studies
This pilot study evaluates the feasibility and acceptability of the JomPrEP app, designed to enhance the HIV prevention cascade among Malaysian men who have sex with men (MSM). The app aims to provide a streamlined and confidential way for users to access HIV prevention services, including pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). By leveraging mobile health technology, the study seeks to address barriers to care and improve health decision-making in a less stigmatizing environment. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either full access to the app or an inactivated version to assess its preliminary efficacy.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are HIV-negative cis-gender men aged 18 and older who have engaged in condomless sex in the last 30 days and own a smartphone.
Not a fit: Patients who are unable to provide informed consent or cannot read and understand English or Bahasa Malaysia may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this app could significantly improve access to HIV prevention services for MSM in Malaysia, potentially reducing HIV transmission rates.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies utilizing mobile health interventions for HIV prevention have shown promise, indicating that this approach is both relevant and potentially effective.
