What this trial studies
This study explores the acceptability and effectiveness of the Re-Connect smartphone application designed to assist individuals in quitting smoking. It involves focus groups to gather feedback on the app's usability and a pilot randomized control trial to assess its feasibility and preliminary efficacy. Participants will be required to demonstrate smoking abstinence to access the app, which aims to enhance motivation and support for quitting. The study will include both qualitative and quantitative methods to evaluate the app's impact in real-world settings.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older who smoke at least 10 cigarettes per day and have a strong desire to quit.
Not a fit: Patients with unmanaged mental health complications or serious health issues that require intensive treatment may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could provide a novel and effective tool for individuals seeking to quit smoking.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using technology for smoking cessation, but this specific approach of contingent access to an app is relatively novel.
